The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office divides trademarks into 45 different "classes." You must choose the proper class when applying for trademark registration.

Trademark Class 3 includes cosmetics, skin and hair treatments, cleaners, and substances for laundry, cleaning, polishing, scouring, and abrasive liquids.

Trademark Class 5 includes mainly pharmaceuticals and other preparations for medical or veterinary purposes.

Class 9 includes apparatus and instruments for scientific or research purposes. The class also includes information technology equipment, audiovisual equipment, and safety and life-saving equipment.

Trademark Class 10 includes surgical, medical, dental, and veterinary apparatus and instruments, as well as artificial limbs, eyes, and teeth.

Trademark Class 11 includes appliances for lighting, heating, steam generating, cooking, refrigerating, drying, ventilating, water supply, and sanitary purposes.

Trademark Class 12 includes vehicles, devices, machines, and apparatus for locomotion by land, air, or water.

Trademark Class 16 includes paper, cardboard, and goods made from these materials.

Trademark Class 18 includes mainly leather, leather imitations, and travel goods.

Trademark Class 21 includes mainly small, hand-operated utensils and apparatus for household and kitchen use, as well as toilet utensils, glassware, and articles in porcelain.

Trademark Class 24 includes textiles and textile goods that aren't included in other classes, including bed covers, table covers, and textile covers for household use.

Trademark Class 25 includes clothing, footwear, and headgear.

Trademark Class 28 includes games and playthings, gymnastic and sporting articles, decorations for Christmas trees, as well as amusement, gaming, and fishing apparatus.

Trademark Class 30 includes coffee, tea, cocoa, artificial coffee, rice, tapioca, flour, bread, pastries, ices, sugar, honey, treacle, yeast, baking powder, salt, mustard, vinegar, sauces (condiments), and spices.

Trademark Class 31 includes grains and agricultural, horticultural, forestry products, as well as live animals, fresh fruits, vegetables, seeds, natural plants, and flowers.

Trademark Class 32 includes beers, mineral and aerated waters, fruit beverages and juices, sodas, and other nonalcoholic beverages, as well as syrups and other preparations for making beverages.

Trademark Class 33 includes alcoholic beverages except for beers.

Trademark Class 35 includes services for advertising, business management, administration, and office functions.

Trademark Class 36 includes services for insurance, financial affairs, monetary affairs, and real estate affairs.

Trademark Class 37 includes building construction, demolition, repair, and installation services.

Trademark Class 38 includes telecommunication services that allow at least one person to communicate with another by a sensory means.

Trademark Class 41 includes services for education, training, and various sporting and cultural activities. It covers mainly services rendered by persons or institutions to educate people or train animals.

Class 42 includes scientific and technical services, such as those performed by professions such as chemists, physicists, engineers, and computer programmers.

Trademark Class 43 includes food and drinks services like restaurants, cafes, and caterers, boarding services like hotels, camping grounds, and animal boarding, and care facilities like nurseries and retirement homes.

Trademark Class 44 is a broad category that includes medical care, hygienic and beauty care products, as well as some agricultural products.

Trademark Class 45 is the appropriate class for legal, security, and related social services.
