Responsibilities

Style Editor

Nolo, the oldest and foremost publisher of self-help legal books and software for consumers, is currently seeking an editor to focus on polishing articles for style and readability. This “style editor” will take legal articles written by attorneys and turn them into compelling reads for different target audiences.

The topic areas covered will span across many legal areas including divorce, personal injury, bankruptcy, DUI, and estate planning, just to name a few. This means that our editor will need to be agile enough to work with all types of legal subject matter, and make them “pop” for the reader.

Requirements

  • A flair for language and article construction, with the ability to connect with the common reader.
  • Superior copy editing skills: grammar, punctuation, spelling, etc.
  • Experience working with, and editing copy from, a wide variety of writers.
  • Ability to manage other editors, mentor them, and ensure their work meets standards.
  • Organized and agile with the ability to juggle many projects at once and always deliver a superior product on time.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.

Production Coordinator

Nolo is one of the nation's preeminent providers of do-it-yourself legal solutions for consumers and small businesses. We produce articles, books, apps, and software, including the renowned Quicken WillMaker. Responsibilities:
- Oversee deadlines related to each stage of the production of books, eBooks, and eForms, ensuring that all are published on time
- Shepherd titles from manuscript through layout, proofing, indexing and preparation for delivery to the printer or for online upload
- Schedule work going to freelance indexers and proofers and be their primary contact
- Handle quality control of proofed manuscripts and printer proofs
- Create PDF eBooks using Adobe Acrobat Pro. Create files for conversion to epub and other formats
- Prepare companion files for each title and create online companion pages
- Prepare files in various formats (pdf, rtf, jpg, tiff) as needed for in-house use and for publishing partners
- Repurpose cover art files for web
- Track all information about each title and keep tracking systems up-to-date
- Submit book data to Library of Congress for cataloging

Requirements:
- Solid working knowledge of Word, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Acrobat Pro for the Mac
- At least two years' experience working in publishing

Martindale-Nolo is looking for Inside Sales Representatives to sell our popular lead generation program to small and mid-sized businesses nationwide. The ideal candidate should be motivated to work independently prospecting and making B2B calls. They will need to have 1+ years' experience with cold calling and lead generation, and the ability to quickly build rapport with potential clients. This position is based out of Pleasanton and has easy access to the 680.

The Inside Sales Representative is responsible for developing and growing new customer accounts within an assigned territory consisting of a large base of prospective clients. The right person will utilize their prospecting and consultative selling skills, high-energy and initiative to identify opportunities to promote and sell our lead generation product. This is an inside sales hunter position, no post sale account management or outside sales. This is a phone-heavy role; the right person will be comfortable making 50 or more calls per day.

This position offers a lucrative, uncapped monthly commission plan in addition to a base salary. Inside Sales Representatives can expect to earn an average total compensation of $65,000 annually, while top performers can earn $85,000 or more! Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
