Is your firm willing to help a client with one discrete part of a case, without taking on the whole case?

Yes, but it depends. If we feel that client is asking us something that in our genuine opinion would hurt the case or project due to the separation, then we would state so, and recommend otherwise or refer them to another attorney.

What are your policies about dividing work within the firm to make the process most cost-effective for the client?

I handle all the work myself, but that being said I am willing to send part of the work (with the client's approval) to another attorney if it is a large project to meet time-based requirements. In addition, I believe breaking up larger projects and having the client use multiple attorneys, utilizing their specialties, achieves economic efficiency for the client.

How frequently does your firm use mediation, arbitration, or collaborative law to resolve cases?

We draft alternative dispute resolution (ADR) clauses in our agreements and frequently analyze whether an ADR situation may be more cost-effective than outright suing. Ultimately, it is up to the client, but they are counseled on these options.

Does your firm provide pro bono legal services or otherwise participate in your community?

Yes.

What distinguishes your law firm from others?

We are business-oriented with the use of modern technology. As a small law firm we have chosen to adopt technologies, which allows us to be lean and work with clients that are also comfortable with technology, including online invoicing, cloud technologies, and e-signatures (when appropriate). One of our partners has a JD/MBA, whereas another partner is licensed both in Hawaii and California. Finally, we work with a number of contract attorneys and professional contractors if a client needs services beyond just our law firm. We host and conduct seminars with a variety of organizations, so that we can continue to give back to the community by educating them about legal issues.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

We think it is good that clients want to educate themselves and understand aspects of the law, as a well-educated client is easier for us to work with and can communicate with us effectively about their goals and understands our use of legal terms. However, our expectation is that clients are educating themselves to learn about the legal issue as opposed to self-representing themselves on mistake belief or opinion on the operation of law.

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

Yes.

Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

Yes, but it depends on the situation.
