Since it's inception, Curtis & Burnight has specialized in real estate and business law, providing a variety of services to local businesses and individuals.
We represent local real estate brokers, escrow holders and other real estate professionals by providing business planning, transactional and litigation services. We are also experienced in the negotiation, review and preparation of real estate purchase agreements, escrow instructions, residential and commercial leases, lease options, promissory notes, deeds, deeds of trust, and other real estate documents. Legal services provided to our numerous business and corporate clients include: -incorporation of new businesses and the preparation of all related documentation -selection and formation of business entities such as corporations, general partnerships, limited partnerships, and limited liability companies (LLC) -formation and representation of non-profit corporations and professional corporations -providing ongoing business planning advice to corporate and business clients, assisting with corporate minutes, policy and procedure manuals, buy-sell agreements, business negotiations, employee and labor matters, construction law issues, business loans, security agreements, governmental issues and other business-related matters. For years, our firm has represented clients in the buying or selling of a business, including the sale of business assets, bulk-sale transactions, and the sale of corporate shares and mergers. We are experienced at working with brokers, escrow holders and other professionals in such sales and are also equipped to handle transactions when there is no escrow or broker involvement. We strive to be accessible by telephone, facsimile and e-mail, and to provide prompt and effective advice to our clients, We schedule annual meetings and are available to attend corporate and business meetings upon request. As a result of our members' experience in local government, our firm has developed an expertise in representing individuals and businesses that deal with governmental agencies such as cities, school boards, special districts and county boards in processing matter through the multiple levels of government. We can provide assistance in contract negotiations, processing plans and permits, zoning issues, conditional use permits, variances, CEQA hearings and appeals before planning boards, commissions and committees, as well as city or county hearing boards.
Gregory J. Burnight joined the firm in 1991, upon admittance to the California bar. Greg is a principal in the firm. Greg specializes in corporate, real estate and business transactional law; trust and probate litigation and administration; and estate planning.
Greg was born and raised in Long Beach. He attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he obtained a Bachelor's degree in Social Science. Greg received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Southern California Law Center.
Greg has been active in the Long Beach, Los Angeles County, Orange County and State of California Bar Associations. He served on the Board of Governors for the Long Beach Bar Association and is a past president of the Long Beach Barristers. Greg has served as a vice-president of the Rotary Club of Long Beach and serves on the Board of Directors for the Long Beach Chamber of Commerce. Greg has served on the Board of Directors for the Long Beach Day Nursery, and is a graduate of Leadership Long Beach, 1998. Greg is a past president of the Long Beach City College Adaptive Physical Education Associates and serves on the Rancho Niguel Little League Board of Directors.

Mark Curtis joined the firm in 1980, upon admittance to the California bar. Mark is a principal in the firm. Mark specializes in family law, estate planning and premarital agreements.
Mark was born and raised in Long Beach. He received his Bachelor's degree from UCLA and his Juris Doctor degree from Pepperdine University.
Mark served on the Board of Directors of Long Beach Transit from 2004 to 2011 (and as Board Chairman in 2010 and 2011). He is also involved with the Long Beach City College Foundation (of which he was president from 1998-2000), and the Rotary Club of Long Beach. Mark is a member of the Family Law Sections of both the Los Angeles County and the Orange County Bar Associations. He serves as a volunteer settlement mediator in local family law courts. Mark is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, the Orange County Bar Association and the Christian Legal Society.
