He has taught basic family law for the past several years at the Harriet Buhai Center for Family Law's Annual Volunteer Training Seminar and he spoke at the 2013 Seminar on his valuable, rewarding experience on the Center's Pro Bono Attorneys Panel for litigated cases. He has also spoken to children in classrooms in connection with the Constitutional Rights Foundation Lawyer in the Classroom Program and he was an attorney coach for Moot Court Competitions for 2 different local schools, one of which won their competition and the other finished second. He has lived with his wife and four children (who have all now reached adulthood) in Sherman Oaks, California.

In law school, he received the West Publishing Award for finishing first in his first year class at Loyola Law School before transferring to the UCLA Law School from which he graduated with a JD in 1971.

As an undergraduate at UCLA, he was a member of the AEPi fraternity in which he served as its president for a term. He was also active in extracurricular activities, including rowing on the Freshman Crew Team and as a Freshman and Varsity Yell Leader. He was also a camp counselor and lifeguard both during the summer and on weekends while he was in college, and had many jobs on campus, including library monitor, parking attendant, audio-visual machine operator. He majored in psychology before going onto to law school.
