Divorce

The Cohen Law Firm serves families in the greater Philadelphia area and surrounding counties. We handle many areas of family law, including many cases of divorce and child custody.

When these issues arise in your own life, you want to work with a law firm whose mission it is to work closely with families and develop a real relationship with clients. We will take the time to talk to you about your current life situation, your goals, where you are, and where you want to be. We'll then talk about how to get you there.

Going through a divorce is undoubtedly a stressful time, even if it's amicable. The state of Pennsylvania recognizes fault (adultery, bigamy, cruelty, etc.) and no-fault ("irretrievable breakdown of the marriage") grounds for divorce. As in every state, the law can become complex.

The outcome of your child custody case will be with you for years to come. It's vital to choose a law firm that keeps this in mind and considers your case from a parent's perspective. The ultimate aim in cases of child custody is to secure "the best interests of the child."

Avoiding the stress and expense of litigation is always preferable, so we encourage the parties involved to try to come to an agreement on what's best for the child. Sometimes it's necessary to go to court and let the judge decide what's best. In these cases, you'll want the expertise of an attorney who is committed to helping you get the best outcome for your child.

Figuring out the future of your child is a stressful time for every member of your family. Making the situation as stress-free as possible for you and your children, and getting your child the best outcome, is our goal.

If you live in Philadelphia County, Chester County, Delaware County, Montgomery County, and Bucks County and have an issue of family law you'd like to discuss with a lawyer, call us today at 267-238-3841.

Family

How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

Cohen Family Law Firm
Scott Cohen

Scott's law practice is focused on serving the needs of young and growing families, from a parent's perspective. Our clients enjoy peace of mind knowing that they have not left anything to chance, and have ensured that their wealth and legacy will endure. And, most important, that their children will be cared for by the people they want, in the way that they want.

Born in Philadelphia, raised in Delaware County, and living in Center City for more than twenty years, Scott knows and understands the concerns of his friends and neighbors. As the population of young families staying in the city has swelled, Scott realized that there was a need for someone to help educate and empower parents to make the best decisions for their lives now, and also to provide a long term, ongoing counseling relationship as their families and wealth grow.

When I'm not serving clients' needs or spending quality time with my wife and two awesome kids, I can be found on my road bike traveling the back roads, or in the woods on my mountain bike. I was born right here in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at Thomas Jefferson Hospital, and grew up in Haverford Township, Delaware County. After graduating from Haverford High School, I attended Tulane University in the wonderful city of New Orleans, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Management. I graduated from Widener University School of Law in 2000 and have been practicing to be a different kind of lawyer ever since!
