How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

After obtaining his Juris Doctor degree from Rutgers Law, Charles E. Smith worked as a law clerk and soon thereafter as an attorney for one of the largest immigration firms in Chicago, Illinois. He was able to gain extensive experience in many different areas of immigration law.

However, he wanted to use this knowledge to provide individualized and affordable immigration services to those clients who are unable to afford the costs associated with the big firms and do not want to wait weeks or even months before work begins on their case. After working on many successful cases for clients throughout the U.S. and getting positive feedback from clients and associates, Attorney Smith left the big firm and moved back to his hometown of Columbus, OH to open his own immigration law practice.

What experience or education distinguishes your lawyers from others?

Attorney Smith has a diverse educational and professional background. He has worked as an immigration attorney for law firms in Ohio and Illinois.

He received his Juris Doctor degree from Rutgers University School of Law in Camden, New Jersey. Additionally, in pursuit of obtaining a culturally diverse legal education, Attorney Smith studied law abroad in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil at the Fundacao Getulio Vargas University.

While attending law school he gained experience as a legal extern for the Pennsylvania Institutional Law Project in Philadelphia, where he assisted on class action lawsuits and federal civil rights litigation. He also interned in Miami, FL as a Judicial Clerk for Judge Jeri B. Cohen and for the University of Miami Child and Youth Law Clinic.

He obtained his Bachelor's Degree from The Ohio State University in Columbus, OH with a major in Criminology and a minor in the Multidisciplinary Legal Foundations of Society. While working towards his Bachelor's degree, he was selected for a law program where he interned for small and big law firms, a Franklin County judge, and a non-profit organization.

What distinguishes your law firm from others?

The goal of Charles E. Smith Immigration Law Office is to provide excellent customer service and immediate attention to your immigration matter. It is a small law office in downtown Columbus, OH with free parking. The firm keeps the overhead low, so it can offer lower rates for legal services than many other immigration firms in the area.

The law office provides free legal consultations so you can get a better idea of your options and the work that will need to be done on your case. In some cases, if further research is necessary to determine all of your options, Charles E. Smith will perform the necessary legal research and schedule a follow-up appointment with you.

The staff strongly believes that communication with the client is essential to a positive attorney-client relationship and is necessary to successfully pursue your case. The firm will promptly respond to voicemail messages as soon as possible, and usually within the same business day.
