Robinson & Wood, Inc.
Archie S. Robinson

Attorney in San Jose, CA

Archie Robinson is one of the founders of Robinson & Wood, Inc. He and five partners formed the current law firm in 1983. Shortly thereafter, the new firm moved into an historic building, owned and beautifully restored by them. Mr. Robinson has been trying civil matters before California juries for nearly five decades, and has more than 100 jury verdicts to his credit. Mr. Robinson began his career defending claims for personal injury arising out of accidents. Later, he became active in insurance litigation while at the same time developing expertise in the fields of medical and legal malpractice. Still later, focus in products liability matters gradually evolved into the practice of intellectual property litigation, consisting of patent, copyright and trade secret litigation, which is currently Mr. Robinson's practice emphasis. Success enjoyed in these various areas of practice has earned him membership in the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers and the American Board of Trial Advocates, both invitation-only organizations, limited to the top trial lawyers in the profession. In the early 1990s, Mr. Robinson was named one of the 25 best insurance defense lawyers in America by the American Lawyer. For the past 20 straight years, he has been selected by his peers as one of California's "Super Lawyers."

Mr. Robinson served as President of the Northern California Association of Defense Counsel and later as President of the Defense Research Institute, a national organization of some 20,000 civil litigation specialists. A keen interest in tort reform motivated Mr. Robinson to found California Defense Counsel, a state-wide legislative effort to address shortcomings in the civil justice system.

Mr. Robinson received his Bachelor's degree in economics from Columbia University, where he played varsity baseball and basketball. He graduated from Stanford Law School in 1963. He was admitted to practice in California in 1964. He has been invited to serve as a clinical instructor in the Stanford Law School civil litigation program.

Named one of the top 25 defense lawyers in U.S. by National Law Journal. Selected, "Best Lawyers in America." Designated, "Super Lawyer" in Intellectual Property Litigation. Recipient, "Lifetime Achievement Award," Defense Research Institute. Clinical Instructor, Trial Advocacy, Stanford Law School. Visiting Instructor, Insurance Law and Bad Faith, University of Santa Clara School of Law. Past President: Defense Research Institute, 1990; California Defense Counsel, 1985-1990; Association of Defense Counsel for Northern California, 1976.
