California Unveils Amnesty Program for Unpaid Tickets

Debt reduction can be up to 80% and licenses can be reinstated.

In Chapters 3 (page 25) and 10 (page 204) of Fight Your Ticket & Win in California (Edition 16), we mention reform of some of the rules around failure to appear or pay tickets. In keeping with that reform, the California Judicial Council has laid out the specifics of a “one-time amnesty program for unpaid traffic and non-traffic infraction tickets.” The amnesty program begins on October 1, 2015 and ends on March 31, 2017.

For the details, including updated explanations of the rules, see the Judicial Council’s question-and-answer page. For more on changes in traffic-ticket amnesty, see California Law on Challenging and Paying for Traffic Tickets Takes Effect.
