Van Orden v. Perry (2005) Definition

In this U.S. Supreme Court plurality decision, the Court, using an historical analysis, ruled that the First Amendment establishment clause didn't bar Texas from having a Ten Commandments monument on the state capitol grounds.

But see McCreary County v. American Civil Liberties Union of Kentucky, 545 U.S. 844 (2005) (government display of Ten Commandments lacked a legitimate secular purpose under the Lemon test).
