Reynolds v. Sims (1964) Definition

A U.S. Supreme Court decision ruling that voting districts for state legislatures must have roughly equal populations. Based on the 14th Amendment equal protection clause, the rule Reynolds announced is sometimes known as the "one person, one vote" rule.
