Negligence due to a violation of law designed to protect the public, such as a speed limit or building code. Unlike ordinary negligence, a plaintiff alleging negligence per se doesn't need to prove that the defendant's actions were unreasonable under the circumstances—the conduct is automatically considered negligent, and the focus of the lawsuit will be over whether it caused damage to the plaintiff.
