A U.S. Supreme Court case in which the Court ruled that Congress had the power to outlaw (under the federal Controlled Substances Act) local cultivation and use of medicinal marijuana, even when permitted by state law. This power, said the Court, came from Congress's commerce clause authority to regulate local activities that substantially affect interstate commerce.
