We've tried to make downloading and using Nolo's eGuides, eBooks, and eFormKits as quick and easy as possible. However, if this is your first experience purchasing one of these products from our website, it is essential that you read, print out, and follow these instructions.
IMPORTANT:
The computer you use to purchase an eProduct must be the same computer you will download it to. Wait until you're on the computer you intend to download the eProduct to and then make your purchase. After you've downloaded the file, you will be able to "transfer" it to another computer by copying it to external media or by email.
In addition, you will not be able to download this file if:
- cookies are disabled on your computer, or
- a firewall prevents you from downloading files from the Internet.
- A decompression utility, like 7-zip (for Windows) or StuffIt Expander (for Macintosh), both of which can be downloaded for free.
- Adobe Acrobat Reader, (for Windows or for Macintosh) which can be downloaded for free.
- Some Nolo eProducts include separate form files, most often in RTF format:
- Windows 2000, XP, and Vista all come with WordPad, an RTF-compatible word processor.
- Macintosh OS X comes with TextEdit, an RTF-compatible word processor; non-OS X users need Word 5.0 or greater, WordPerfect 2.1 or greater, or another RTF-compatible word processor.
To download, expand, and use Nolo eProducts:
- Download the ZIP file in which the eProduct is archived.
- Expand the file ZIP you just downloaded.
- Double click the PDF file of your eBook, eFormKit, or eGuide.
More detailed instructions on how to accomplish these steps for both Windows and Mac users are provided below.
- Click the "Download Now" button to begin downloading the file to your computer.
- Write down both the exact name of the file and the folder on your hard drive that the file is saved to. We highly recommend creating a folder named "Nolo downloads"on your computer's Desktop and downloading the file into that folder, where it will be easy to find.
NOTE: If you can't successfully download the file because your Internet connection breaks off, try again. If you still have problems, contact Nolo Tech Support at support@nolo.com.
- Once the download is complete, use a decompression utility, like 7-zip (for Windows) or StuffIt Expander (for Macintosh), to expand the ZIP archive. If you need additional help on extracting files, you can get it from your decompression utility's Help menu.
- Find and open the folder into which you extracted the .ZIP archive. This folder contains several files, and in some cases a "Forms" folder.
- Find and double click the PDF file in the open folder. (The name of this PDF file varies depending on the product you've purchased.) Double clicking the PDF file will launch Adobe Acrobat Reader and open your eBook, eFormKit, or eGuide. (If you haven't already installed Adobe Reader, you download it for free from Adobe's website.)
- Locate the table of contents on the left side of the screen, and click "Read Me First." Print and review the Read Me file, which has detailed instructions on how to use your eBook, eFormKit, or eGuide.
