Web Applications Engineer - Java

Our friendly, hard-working web development team is about to embark on a complete redesign of our web site. We’re starting from the ground up with new software, new programming languages and new information architecture and we’d like a Java developer who can hit the ground running with good ideas, creativity, and solid experience building web applications.
We usually work 40 hours a week and have lives outside of work. Our team members like to spend time with their kids and partners, hike, take photographs, play guitar and practice yoga. We're also committed to producing a Webby award winning web site that really helps people. We can't give you a six-figure salary, but we won't give you any six-figure headaches, either. We've got great benefits and generous time off.
Responsibilities:
- Design and implement website features and maintain existing applications within J2EE, content management system (CMS) and ecommerce applications.
- Keep abreast of new technologies; research and recommend technologies when appropriate.
- Troubleshoot site and web application issues.
- Execute bug fixes as needed for ecommerce & content management systems.
- Perform periodic database projects as needed.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.
Skills and Attributes:
- Required:
- Java with an emphasis on J2EE
- SQL - complex queries, joins, data imports and exports, etc. (MS SQLServer, MySQL)
- JavaScript, HTML and CSS
- XML
- Creativity, the desire to work on a large-scale project from start to finish.
- Good organizational and communication skills
- Ability to solve medium to complex technical problems with minimal supervision
- Willingness to pick up new technological skills based on growing and changing business needs.
- Ability to work well under pressure.
- A cooperative, collaborative spirit.
- Plusses:
- ColdFusion, Eclipse, Tomcat, AJAX, RSS, and/or SVN
- Familiarity with Percussion Rhythmyx and/or Open For Business (OFBiz)
- Good knowledge of browser compatibility issues and web accessibility standards
Qualifications:
- 3-5 years experience working on a complex, consumer-facing, database-driven website.
- 1-2 years J2EE
- 3-5 years SQL experience
- Thorough knowledge and proven ability with HTML, JavaScript & CSS
