1) Information conveyed or made generally known to the public regardless of the media or method of communication. 2) A method of providing legal notice, usually by means of an approved newspaper in the appropriate county or district. 3) In defamation (libel and slander), the communication of an untrue statement to anyone other than the victim of the falsehood. 4) In copyright law, the act of making copies of a work available to the public on an unrestricted basis.
