WillMaker Error Messages

This page of the WillMaker Users' Manual describes what each error message means and what you should do if you encounter it.

[CD-ROM drive] is not accessible. The device is not ready. The CD you inserted is not being read. Reinsert the CD. Wait ten seconds and double-click the CD-ROM drive icon. If that doesn't work, contact Nolo Technical Support.
An error occurred: couldn't find the requested path name. Quicken WillMaker Plus couldn't find the path for a file it wants to open. Contact Nolo Technical Support.
An error occurred while assembling the document. The resource files of the program might be damaged. Reinstall the program. Try again. If that doesn't work, contact Nolo Technical Support.
Internal error: attempt to overwrite existing file. Quicken WillMaker Plus is attempting to overwrite an existing file without permission. Try to remember the steps you did before the error appeared, then contact Nolo Technical Support.
Sorry, an internal error occurred. Something very serious is wrong with the program, either because of a disk error, memory error, or bug. Quit, restart the program and attempt to repeat what you did. The problem may clear up on its own. If not, try reinstalling Quicken WillMaker Plus. If that doesn't work, contact Nolo Technical Support.

Sorry, this file cannot be read by Quicken WillMaker Plus. You are trying to open a file that is not recognized by Quicken WillMaker Plus. If you are sure the file you are attempting to use is a Quicken WillMaker Plus data file, try a backup copy. If that doesn't work, contact Nolo Technical Support.
Quicken WillMaker Plus cannot open that file, because it is read-only. Quicken WillMaker Plus was not allowed to open a file because it didn't have permission to open it, either because it is in use or because it is read-only. Check that the file (or the disk) is not locked.
Quicken WillMaker Plus was not shut down properly the last time it was run. Please run Web Update to make sure your copy of the program is up-to-date. If this problem continues, contact Nolo Technical Support. Either (1) a bug in Quicken WillMaker Plus caused the program to crash the last time you used it, or (2) you turned off your computer while Quicken WillMaker Plus was still running. Run Web Update. If the problem was Quicken WillMaker Plus, an update to fix the problem may be available. Also, make sure that you exit Quicken WillMaker Plus before shutting down your computer. If this problem continues, contact Nolo Technical Support.
[Name you're trying to edit information about]'s [name/gender] can't be changed. Editing this information could affect the legality of another document you've made.
