Bankruptcy Filing Fee Changes Go Into Effect on December 1, 2020

The fees debtors pay to file a bankruptcy case will increase on December 1, 2020.

The federal court’s national policy-making body, the Judicial Conference, approved a bankruptcy filing fee increase effective December 1, 2020. The inflationary adjustment will change the fee amount as follows:

  • Chapter 7 bankruptcy. $335.00 increases to $338.00
  • Chapter 9 bankruptcy. $1717.00 increases to $1738.00
  • Chapter 11 bankruptcy. $1717.00 increases to $1738.00 (non-railroad)
  • Chapter 12 bankruptcy. $275.00 increases to $278.00
  • Chapter 13 bankruptcy. $310.00 increases to $313.00
  • Chapter 15 bankruptcy. $1717.00 increases to $1738.00

Other often-used fee increases include:

  • Motion for Relief from Stay. $181 increases to $188
  • $31 increases to $32
