New Alabama bankruptcy exemption figures available effective April 1, 2021.

Federal and state exemption amounts change periodically. On April 1, 2021, the following changes to Alabama's state exemptions become effective:

  • Homestead Exemption – from $15,500 to $16,450
  • Personal Property Wildcard Exemption – from $7,750 to $8,225

These changes are effective through April 1, 2024.

Other Alabama exemption changes might exist. Filers should personally verify exemption amounts published in the Alabama Code and on the Office of the State Treasurer's website or consult with an attorney before filing for bankruptcy.
