Indiana Does Away With Its Inheritance Tax

Indiana has eliminated its inheritance tax retroactively, effective January 1, 2013.

A provision repealing the tax was included in the state's new budget, which was signed on May 8, 2013 by Indiana governor Mike Pence. Indiana, one of the few states to still impose a tax on those who inherit property, had begun phasing out its tax in 2012. The phaseout was due to take effect over a 10-year period.
