Debt Limits Increase for Chapter 13 Bankruptcy Filers (Effective April 1, 2016)

Effective April 1, 2016, Chapter 13 bankruptcy debt limits have increased.

Effective April 1, 2016, Chapter 13 bankruptcy debt limits have increased.

Effective April 1, 2016, the debt limits for Chapter 13 bankruptcy changed. The information in Nolo books has become outdated as a result of this change. The new Chapter 13 bankruptcy debt limits are as follows:

  • $394,725 for unsecured debt, and

  • 1,184,200 for secured debt.

Debt limit information changes every three years to account for inflation. The next update is expected to occur April of 2019.
