Well, at least we can't blame the government for this latest source of delay: Mother Nature has more than once, this winter, made conditions too difficult for anyone to make it to various of the government office buildings. On January 7, 2014, for example, the offices of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Servcies (USCIS) were closed in Buffalo and Rochester (New York) and Indianapolis (Indiana).
If you've got an appointment scheduled with USCIS, you won't get any personal notification that the office is closed and the appointment therefore not happening. For details on how to check the status of the building where your appointment is scheduled, and whether you'll need to take steps to have it rescheduled, see Nolo's blog entry, "How Will You Know When USCIS Declares a Snow Day?"
