Personal Injury

Bringing our knowledge of the insurance industry to helping the injured

One of the strengths of the Hartford law firm of William J. Melley III in helping victims of personal injury obtain maximum compensation for their injuries is our experience in insurance law. We have a unique perspective: Attorney William Melley has mediated and defended hundreds of cases on behalf of insurance companies. He uses his insight into how insurance companies approach a personal injury claim to the advantage of our personal injury clients - whether their injuries were the result of a car accident, a complex multi-vehicle accident, because of a physician error or a slip on an unmarked wet floor in a grocery store.

Damages in personal injury
One of the first things most people who have suffered a personal injury want to know is what they can be compensated for, and how much their case is worth. William J. Melley is a veteran trial lawyer with a track record of success in getting fair and just compensation for our clients. We aggressively seek compensation for:

-An award for medical treatment received and estimated future medical treatment
-Loss of income and loss of future earnings
-Repair or replacement of damaged property
-Pain and suffering
-Loss of consortium
-Funeral expenses, in the case of wrongful death

An insurance adjuster will place a value on your claim. As an experienced personal injury attorney, William Melley will also value your claim - and almost always at a higher amount than the adjuster. The ability to value those non-monetary general, or hedonic, damages is at the heart of our ability to obtain the best possible outcome for our clients in cases of:

-Car accidents
-Truck accidents
-Slip and fall injuries
-Dog bites
-Negligent security
-Surgical error
-Failure to diagnose
-Failure to treat promptly resulting in harm

When the defendant's conduct can be construed as malicious or egregious, we will also pursue punitive damages.
