While some law firms handle just a few workers' compensation cases as a part of their overall practice--or even represent both employers and injured workers--Wertz & Dake focuses our entire practice on representing injured workers.
With more than 60 years of combined experience in handling Iowa workers' compensation cases, the Wertz & Dake law firm has helped thousands of people who were injured on the job. In fact, a few of our cases have even helped create and define the law through precedent-setting Supreme Court decisions.
Please read as much information as you can about your rights on our website. However, remember there is no substitute for consulting with an experienced workers' compensation attorney. Each case is unique. We invite you to have a free consultation with our attorneys about your case.
Wertz & Dake strive to maintain the rights and dignity of our clients, Iowa's injured workers. Our focus is to do what is best for our clients. In order to do so, we specialize in workers' compensation, which means we are committed to knowing and framing the workers' compensation system to benefit of Iowa's injured workers.
This is especially important now because, in 2017, the Iowa workers' compensation laws changed and these changes hurt Iowa's injured workers. Injured workers need access to specialists who know the 2017 law changes and can provide guidance needed to mitigate the damage caused by the new laws. Wertz and Dake were at the forefront in fighting against these law changes. Unfortunately, the changes became a reality and Wertz and Dake, as specialists in the field, are adjusting to the law changes and fighting for favorable outcomes for their clients and other injured workers. We are here to help.
Some lawyers dabble in many different areas of the law. Not so for Tom Wertz. Shortly after moving into private practice, he turned his focus to workers' compensation, and representing injured workers. Wertz quickly recognized the need for experienced attorneys in this specialized field. His commitment has resulted in a legal practice representing injured workers for more than 35 years.
His record before the Iowa Supreme Court has led to major legal changes on behalf of injured workers. These changes include:
Compensation benefits for tinnitus (ringing in the ears) and acute psychological injuries.
Home medical care for out-of-state injured workers. These workers no longer have to travel to Iowa for care.
Required reevaluations by insurance companies. They must now revisit denied claims when new information is received.
Compensation cannot be reduced because of pre-existing limitations on employment.
