Most employers know the rules of the road, but sometimes ignore them. Employment Discrimination comes in a variety of forms.
The most common examples include discrimination based upon race or ethnicity, religion, sex, age, or disability. Sexual harassment and, unfortunately, sexual assaults are also quite common even though most people know the proper boundaries. Other examples include being fired due to "whistle blowing", or notifying a government agency of something that the employer was doing illegal or termination after a worker filed a claim for workers' compensation.
Product liability claims arise from injuries or death caused by any product.
Our law requires that when a manufacturer puts a product out for sale that it be safe and free from defects. In an age where many products are made outside of the United States, safety is quite often forgotten. Products can be designed in a way that can be dangerous with normal use. Products can also have a defect when they are manufactured and lead to injury of an unsuspecting consumer. Many of these problems are associated with items designed to be used by children and infants. Other product failures happen at work or in a manufacturing plant. Athletic equipment can also be dangerous. As a consumer, you are entitled to trust that a product will not be dangerous when you buy it. When a product causes an injury or harm, the people who put it in the marketplace can be held accountable.

Andrew Nantz was born in raised in St. Louis. He graduated from Christian Brothers College High School before graduating from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1994 with a B.J. in the prestigious School of Journalism. After completing his undergraduate degree, he attended the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law and was admitted to the Missouri Bar in 1999 and the Kansas Bar in 2000. In addition to those state courts, he is admitted to practice in the United States District Courts for Western and Eastern Missouri and the United States District Court of Kansas.
Andrew's entire legal career is focused on civil litigation. Immediately after the bar exam, he joined regional insurance defense firm, Brown & James. Insurance defense provided great training and insight regarding how insurance companies operate. At Brown & James, Andrew was involved in rigorous parts of lawsuits, including several jury trials, very early in his career.
This training and experience set the groundwork for forming Hunter & Nantz in July 2003, a litigation firm primarily handling Plaintiff's work. In his years with Hunter & Nantz, he took part in a number of successful cases and trials. Nantz then joined Ketchmark & McCreight as a partner in June 2012. However, Andrew missed being the "captain of his own ship" and ventured back out on his own in April 2015 to start Nantz Law Firm, LLC. But a solo practice was not his ultimate goal, and he went on to form Votava Nantz & Johnson, LLC in April of 2016.
Andrew is experienced in a broad range of litigation, including auto/truck accidents, wrongful death, general negligence, pharmacy negligence, medical negligence, legal malpractice, insurance disputes, and business to business disputes. Andrew has been voted as a "Super Lawyer" and to the "Best of the Bar" by his peers every year for more than 10 years.
Andrew is married with two young children. He spends a lot of his free time in the outdoors at his cabin fishing.
Brett Votava has practiced exclusively on injury and wrongful death cases since graduating near the top of his class from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law almost 15 years ago. He initially worked as an attorney for Shook, Hardy & Bacon, where he learned how big companies and defense attorneys defend injury and wrongful death cases. Since 2003, Brett has exclusively represented injured people and families who have unnecessarily lost a loved one. He has experience with both routine cases and high-value complex cases culminating in trial.
Votava is also an adjunct professor at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law, where he teaches law students. In 2015, he won the annual Thomas Conway Award from the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association for his ability to zealously represent clients while remaining cordial to opposing counsel. Votava has routinely been selected as a Top 100 Lawyer in Missouri and Kansas, Top 50 Lawyers in Kansas City, and "Best of the Bar" in Kansas City over the past seven years by the Kansas City Business Journal and Super Lawyers magazine.
Brett focuses on injury and wrongful death law specifically when caused by medical malpractice, unsafe premises such as businesses and homes, and motor vehicle crashes involving trucks, cars or motorcycles. He also handles problems against insurance companies and pharmaceutical/medical device cases. He really enjoys representing the little guy against big companies and the variety that makes every case so unique.
He and his wife, Brigette, enjoy spending time with family and friends since they are the most important things in life. His parents live in the small town of Lebanon, Missouri and his wife's family is from Olathe, Kansas. As a college graduate from the University of Missouri-Columbia, Brett also passionately follows his Mizzou Tigers.
