DUI and DWI

Earl is certified in DUI detection and the administration of Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (the same roadside tests administered by police on suspected drunk drivers) and will use his knowledge to point out mistakes made by police officers.

Earl began his legal career working for a nationally recognized DUI law firm in northern Illinois where Earl handled thousands of DUI misdemeanors and felonies and has taken hundreds of cases to trial. More importantly, Earl has helped many of his clients save their driving privileges and stay out of jail. Getting arrested for DUI is a scary thing because you could not only lose your driving privileges but be sent to jail or be ordered to do hundreds of hours of community service without the benefit of a driver's license. If you are a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) holder, a DUI suspension or disposition will prohibit you from driving trucks and commercial vehicles for a minimum of one year. This could significantly impact your ability to work and support your family. If significantly injure or cause the death of another person while driving under the influence, you are facing years of imprisonment, a minimum fine of $25,000.00, thousands of dollars in alcohol counseling costs and the indefinite revocation of your driving privileges (this means you won't be able to drive until you petition the Illinois Secretary of State to reinstate your driving privileges AND the Illinois Secretary of State is convinced that you can be trusted behind the wheel of car). What's most difficult about getting convicted on a DUI and losing your license is getting your license back -- which can take years and sometimes even decades. Call Earl today to help you avoid the harsh penalties of a DUI. Earl has the knowledge, experience, skill and familiarity with courts in Kane, DuPage, Will, Kendall, and Cook county.

Earl A. Vergara, founder and principal of The Vergara Law Group, believes in the sanctity of marriage and keeping families together. There are times, however, when circumstances beyond your control can change your family dynamics, goals and future. If you have been served with divorce papers or are looking to forge a new path for yourself and family, Earl can help you with your divorce. Earl understands that divorce can have devastating consequences for you and your loved ones and will do everything he can to help you move forward while minimizing the emotional and financial toll of a divorce. If you have children, Earl will do everything he can to ensure that you are able to spend as much time possible with your children and get the child support you deserve. If you've been the victim of spousal abuse, Earl will counsel you on available options that will help stop the abuse such as filing an Order of Protection, filing a police report or seeking exclusive possession of your marital residence. If you anticipate facing dire financial straits in the aftermath of your divorce, Earl will work hard to either maximize your maintenance (alimony) or eliminate it altogether, depending the unique circumstances of your case. If you don't think you can afford an attorney, Earl will work with you in setting up a payment plan so that you can be represented in court.

Going through a divorce is a lot like riding a roller coaster with a lot of turns, dips and drops. Even though you will inevitably experience highs and lows on this "divorce coaster," Earl's experience, knowledge and familiarity with the courts will not safeguard what you value most, but also uphold your integrity in the face of change. Call Earl today if you need help with a divorce.

What distinguishes your law firm from others?

While I enjoy the practice of law and do the very best I can to represent my clients, being attorney is "something I do" and not "who I am." I've seen too many attorneys who function as attorneys everywhere they go and I think that can be disadvantageous when relating to clients. Although attorneys are generally more educated than the public on legal matters, I believe attorneys have a duty to relate to the people they help on an individual basis. Being able to talk to my clients outside of their specific case about anything from sports to their families, jobs, matters of faith and even politics is very important to me. The foundation of every successful endeavor is trust, and that's what I strive to earn the people I help. And what's the best way to earn trust? For Earl, it is to listen, communicate and be honest.
