Tillotson & Martin, LLC

Our passion at Tillotson & Martin, L.L.C., is defending citizens against unfair traffic & DUI laws. We defend DWI cases anywhere in Virginia.

Firm Overview

At Tillotson & Martin, our goal is to be the best DWI/DUI attorneys in Virginia.

We write the book for DWI defense for Virginia judges and attorneys (Volume 16 of the Virginia Practice Series for Westlaw). We carefully track every new law change and have updated the book yearly for over a decade.

We teach other attorneys. We provide EC/IR II seminars for attorneys on how to beat the breath test machine. VirginiaCLE has asked us to teach DUI Testing: Breath, Blood and Field Sobriety Tests to Virginia Attorneys.

Michael is a certified Instructor in NHTSA Field Sobriety Testing. Jeff was the first and currently one of only two attorneys in Virginia designated by the American Chemical Society (ACS) as a Forensic Lawyer-Scientist. This training and designation means that he understands the science of testing for DUI, DUI-drug, and solid drug cases.

We train extensively to develop and improve cutting edge defenses. Our attorneys are active members National College of DUI Defense (NCDD), DUI Defense Lawyers Association (DUIDLA), Forensic Chromatography Lawyers (ChromLawyers), Virginia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (VACDL).

Michael graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in Criminal Justice Studies and received the Alpha Phi Sigma Award for graduation with the highest grade point average in Criminal Justice Studies from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary in 1990.

Michael has been been recognized by the NCDD for his efforts as a Criminal Defense Attorney dedicated to the defense of citizens accused of Driving Under the Influence (DUI). Michael is a nationally certified breath test operator and is NHTSA trained on field sobriety tests. He attends numerous DUI seminars across the country every year to keep abreast of all the latest innovative ways to defend DUI cases. Michael understands and uses legal, scientific, medical, and technical issues to fight DUI cases.

Michael recently received a certification of training on the new Virginia ECIR II breath testing machine.

Jeff graduated with honors from the William & Mary School of Law with the Gambrell Professional Award for written and oral advocacy and was one of only eleven students recognized for excellence in research, writing, analysis, and trial practice. Jeff completed my requirements as a Mediator and was certified by the Supreme Court of Virginia.

Jeff completed a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Biology from Towson University that helps helps him in his work with the scientific and medical aspects of DUI. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with extensive course work in physiology and chemistry, and with a host of awards and scholarships. He participated in original research and worked at the University’s anatomy & physiology lab. He was also a trauma tech at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma (MIEMSS) in the Critical Care and Intensive Care Units.

In the years between undergrad and law school, Jeff sharpened my speaking and advocacy skills by leading two successful churches in Appalachia and Wisconsin.
