Techlaw LLP is focuses on intellectual property, and the corporate needs of it's IP clientele. The firm was co-founded by Dana Robinson, whose practice includes trademarks, copyrights, incorporation and private corporate transactions.
TechLaw LLP is a new economy law firm rooted in the business needs of today's American businesses. As experienced intellectual property attorneys with advanced degrees in a variety of scientific and engineering disciplines, our uncommon skill set enables us to work with virtually any technology. In addition to our deep, technical knowledge, our attorneys' hands on entrepreneurial experience offers a unique perspective to our clients when providing legal advice. With recent globalization and the nature of intellectual property, we recognize the magnitude of our clients' needs. Our firm has far reaching capabilities with the ability to manage clients' matters worldwide through a network of foreign associates. At the same time, our unique business model allows us to offer an unmatched agile, individualized and affordable attorney service.
As a boutique, most of our work is handled directly by the responsible partner. We believe that this is more cost effective than leveraging several associates per partner, and provides the client with a better service. Where significant research is required, we employ law clerks from the local law schools, which we bill at a significant discount to typical associate fees.
Most cases are settled well prior to trial, but often not through the mechanisms of mediation or arbitration.
We offer the quality of the world's largest firms, but with the personal connection that comes from a small law practice.
We do our best to put ourselves in the client's shoes. Dana Robinson, for example, has owned four businesses and is an investor in many others. He believes that clients are best served by learning as much as possible about what he does so that they can use their lawyers more effectively and efficiently.
In some instances, but we find that many documents that are "standard" are cheaper for us to provide from scratch than to review and revise what was created by the client.
Not typically. A client who desires to negotiate their own agreement, for example, can use us for the "behind the scenes" work without having us take the forefront of their negotiation. However, we do not work with pro per litigants.
Dana is a founding partner of Techlaw LLP, an IP boutique law firm with over a dozen attorneys. Prior to that, he managed the trademark practice at Quirk & Tratos, an IP law firm that later merged with Greenberg Traurig in Las Vegas. His expertise includes trademarks, copyrights, and corporate transactions. He manages a diverse, worldwide portfolio of trademark estates for companies of all sizes.
Dana is adjunct Professor of Law at the University of San Diego School of Law, where he teaches intellectual property and business courses, and helped launch the law school's IP Law Clinic.
Dana's entrepreneurial endeavors have included over a dozen companies, from publishing to property management and real estate to technology startups.
In 2001, he co-founded Esquivel, LLC, a manufacturer of US made luxury shoes co-owned by designer George Esquivel, a 2009 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalist. The company has collaborated with and designed for a variety of well-known companies, including TUMI, Tommy Hilfiger, Chloe, Fratelli Rossetti and Florsheim. However, Esquivel has spent the past fifteen years building its own brand of bespoke, made-in-California shoes that have donned the feet of celebrities, athletes and captains of industry.
In 2005, Dana was a co-founder of eChristian, Inc, which sold to Recorded Books and private equity group Shamrock Capital in 2016. Dana was also a co-founder of: Modern Cooperage in 2008, Mako Labs in 2010, The Nimble Life in 2014, and Trademarkery, LLC in 2016.
Dana received his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of San Diego School of Law. He served as Editor-in-Chief of the law school's faculty journal, the Journal of Contemporary Legal Issues. He is admitted to practice in Nevada and California, and before the Federal District Courts for the Central District of California, the Southern District of California, and the District of Nevada. He holds a FINRA Series 79 license, and a California real estate broker's license.
