Stein & Higgs exists to help clients reach their goals. What sets us apart is our hands on communicative approach to law, and the fact we do not require large retainers, but simply set up affordable payment plans for our clients.
We specialize in Estate Planning, Family Law & Divorce, and Real Estate. We like to meet face to face in a free consultation and see if we are a good fit. We in general do not charge retainers, unless a client prefers to pay upfront. Instead we either do pay on signing for document preparation, or affordable payment plans on court and and hourly matters. The object is to make law practice accessible to everyone at a reasonable price.

Stein & Higgs offers the unique opportunity of helping clients understand their rights, the choices they can make, and the consequences, in a way that minimizes cost and maximizes desired results.
At Stein & Higgs, our clients centered focus, allows us to sit down and form a plan with the client that makes sense to both of us. Rather than charge retainers we enter into payment plan agreements, that allows us to get started right away pursuing client goals. Costs are minimizes by doing only those things that attorneys must do and teaching the client how to manage their own affairs where it is advisable to do so. While the hourly rate is $270 an hour, the actual costs are generally less than 1/3rd of what other attorneys in the market are charging.
The root of the word attorney means teacher. At Stein and Higgs we believe the profession should be centered on helping clients become educated in the law to better protect their rights, and have the attorney do those things that they need to do, providing legal reasoning, presentation of alternatives, providing wise counsel, and providing argumentation and representation when necessary.
With a background in Ministry and Elementary Education, James C. Higgs came to the practice of law with a mentality that desires to serve and do good. Rather than treat law like an opportunity to get rich James offers reasonable rates and services and payment plans to make law accessible to everyone. This works well for those that really need help but cannot afford large retainers, making James unique in the area.
