Schneider IP Law is a boutique firm specializing in intellectual property protection, including securing patents and trademarks and managing international IP portfolios.

Laura Schneider relies on her nearly 10 years of legal experience and 5 years of engineering experience to handle all aspects of clients' intellectual property needs. Laura is committed to providing personal, high quality legal guidance to inventors and business owners alike, with particular experience in mechanical and electro-mechanical engineering, medical devices, household products, and clothing products. Laura also maintains an extensive network of trusted engineers, drafters, patent brokers, and corporate attorneys to ensure your needs are met from start to finish.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

Clients who educate themselves before, during, and after consulting with an attorney are empowered, and, importantly, enable the attorney to provide even better service than he or she otherwise would have. A client who has educated him- or herself is more likely to know the right questions to ask, and will often provide better information to the attorney. This is not to say that clients should simply avoid engaging an attorney altogether. Attorneys spend three years in law school (and patent attorneys also must have an engineering undergraduate degree) in addition to their years in practice becoming experts in their fields, and, absent this experience, a client, even one who is well informed, simply is at a disadvantage without an attorney.

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

Yes, Schneider IP Law regularly reviews and edits invention disclosures prepared by clients.

Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

Securing a patent or trademark is generally not suited to this type of arrangement, due to the critical and convoluted nature of deadlines and requirements.

What are your firm's strengths and style?

Laura is a very down-to-earth person without an ego who wants each client to know that his or her project is her top priority. Because of her background in engineering and living in multiple parts of the world, Laura is known for being able to speak the client's language.
