Ted Sabety is the principal of Sabety +associates, PLLC, a boutique intellectual property law firm in New York City. Sabety has extensive experience in the field of copyright protection technologies and online music tracking. Sabety worked on the Secure Digital Music Initiative during the early days of Internet music distribution. Sabety also worked on the earliest sound recording licenses for Internet distribution for EMI Recorded Music and Warner Music Group. In addition, he worked for the National Music Publishers Association on landmark copyright litigation, including the Napster, Aimster and Grokster litigations. More recently, he has advised the Songwriters Guild regarding copyright regulatory action regarding streaming platforms. His involvement in the music industry goes back to his producing days, when he worked creating sound recordings for Run-DMC, Mobb Deep, and Stimulator.
Ted holds a B.A. in Physics from Yale, an M.S. in Computer Science and J.D. from Columbia University. He has worked as an Integrated Circuit Design Engineer at Hewlett Packard, was Chief Engineer for a DARPA project, and an attorney at Weil, Gotshal & Manges and Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison. He serves on the Information Technology Law Committee at The Bar Association of the City of New York, is an active coordinator of programs for The New York Tech Alliance and frequently speaks concerning Law, Technology, Media and Data Security.
