With over 20 years of diverse legal experience including civil litigation, negotiation, counseling and consulting, Laura's passion is to offer clients personal and powerful representation on employment law issues. The Noble Law Firm provides clarity at work through forward-thinking, trusted employment law counsel and assertive representation on key employment issues. The firm works with individuals experiencing problems in their employment relationship and companies wishing to minimize litigation risk. She founded Noble Law on the principle that an agile, efficient, and transparent specialized firm could outpace "big law" competitors.
Laura developed this conviction from her own legal background and experiences. After graduating from the University of Maryland, she moved to New York City and worked as a prosecutor in one of the largest and most challenging District Attorney's offices in the county. Laura then worked with a sizable civil litigation firm in Manhattan before moving to a nonprofit in a general counsel and advocacy role.
Although all of these experiences were valuable and informed her work, her true dream was to start her own firm. Laura began The Noble Law Firm in 2009 with the goal of providing exceptional employment law representation to individuals and companies. Her clients know that she genuinely cares about them and will work diligently to achieve the best possible outcomes on their behalf. Having practiced employment law for more than 15 years, Nick brings a unique and invaluable skill-set to The Noble Law Firm. Prior to joining the Firm in 2010, Nick practiced at Proskauer Rose LLP and Jones Day, two of the nation's largest and most respected management-side law firms. While at these firms, Nick successfully represented Fortune 500 companies in almost every conceivable employment situation, including in federal and state courts throughout the United States; high-stakes labor arbitrations; and administrative proceedings before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Department of Labor and the National Labor Relations Board. Nick also became well-versed in handling appeals, particularly at the federal appellate level.
Due to his extensive management-side experience, Nick is familiar with and can anticipate the practical and legal strategies companies employ in litigation. Consequently, since joining The Noble Law Firm, Nick has successfully and efficiently represented numerous Firm clients at the pre-litigation and litigation phases of employment disputes. In addition to handling many of the Firm's larger litigation cases, Nick's broad knowledge of North Carolina non-competition law often leads him to represent clients in disputes involving non-compete and similar agreements.
Bert is a seasoned and talented litigator with more than 20 years of trial experience representing businesses and individuals in all types of complex and class litigation. He joined the firm as an Attorney in June 2017. Following a federal judicial clerkship, Bert's practice began with a large national management-side firm, where he worked in all areas of labor and employment law, including counseling and litigation involving age, sex and race-based discrimination, sexual harassment, wage & hour, non-compete agreements, and executive compensation.
Since 2005, Bert has managed a boutique litigation firm specializing in representing plaintiffs in employment and consumer fraud cases, both individual and class actions. He has tried, arbitrated or mediated dozens of cases to conclusion, argued successfully before the Supreme Court of Alabama, and handled successful appeals before the Eleventh and Ninth Circuit Courts of Appeal, as well as state appellate courts in Alabama and California. He is a member of the State Bars of North Carolina, California and Alabama, and has held the AV-rating from Martindale Hubbell for more than 14 years. Before going to law school in Birmingham, Alabama, Bert earned a BLS in English Literature and honed his writing skills during stints as a political speechwriter in Washington, DC and as a reporter and business editor at Mississippi's largest weekly newspaper. While at law school, Bert served as Editor-in- Chief of the American Journal of Trial Advocacy.
Jennifer L. Bills has been litigating on behalf of employees and individuals for over 16 years, and joined the firm Of Counsel in 2017. She is a strong advocate for those standing up to powerful bullies, and was recognized as a Rising Star while practicing in Boston, MA.
Jennifer grew up in Greensboro and left the South to attend Haverford College and Northeastern University School of Law. Upon graduation, she clerked for U.S. District Court Judge Gene Carter in Portland, Maine. Jennifer worked for several nonprofit organizations and two small Boston law firms practicing civil rights and employment law before coming home to North Carolina in 2008.
Jennifer has extensively litigated in federal and state courts, as well as administrative proceedings. As a Senior Attorney at Disability Rights NC, she worked for nine years to protect the rights of people with disabilities under the ADA. Jennifer teaches Disability Law as an Adjunct Professor of Law at UNC-Chapel Hill. She frequently lectures and teaches CLE courses on topics including Employment Law: ADA and FLMA, Medicaid Appeals, Restoration of Competency, and Ethical Issues for Clients with Diminished Capacity.
