Don Nguyen

Nguyen & Kan

Don Nguyen is a Vietnamese attorney who earned his Juris Doctorate from South Texas College of Law. Like many Vietnamese refugees, his parent immigrated from Vietnam to the United States during the end of the Vietnam War.

During law school, he worked for the Harris County Public Defender's Office and the Texas Attorney General's Office. While working for both entities, Don gained invaluable knowledge and experience on defending and obtaining judgments against opposing parties. In addition, he participated in his school's moot court team, placing second in the regional competition.

After graduating from law school, Don began working as an attorney working for Jones & Associates, PLLC in 2014. During his tenure, he mainly represented plaintiffs in employment cases, defendants in criminal defense cases, and a multitude of other clients in various areas of the law.

From filing the lawsuit to collecting a judgment, Don utilizes his experience to assist his clients throughout the process. In doing this, he honed his advocacy skills by successfully litigating against defendants who obtained well-established partners at large firms to represent them.

In the end of 2016, Don branched out and created his own law firm with the goal of continually improving and evolving his practice. Using the experience he obtained from previous representations in concert with new strategies, Don works hard to give his clients the best, successful outcomes.

James Kan

Nguyen & Kan

James Kan graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Cell and Molecular Biology from the University of Texas, Austin in 2009. After graduation, James stood at a crossroad; he had to decide between continuing his journey of science and pursuing a Ph.D., or committing to his other passion: the law. He chose law and attended South Texas College of Law where he made the Dean's list every semester. After graduating, he joined Shellist McAlister, LLP.

While at Shellist McAlister, James worked on helping clients charged with crimes that ranged from trespassing to aggravated assault, driving while intoxicated to homicide, and everything in between. In 2017, James joined his good friend and law school classmate Don Nguyen to form Nguyen and Kan.

James's practice is predominantly in criminal defense. His experience and devotion in this field have proven that preparation, tenacity, and a clear understanding of the law are the keys to helping his clients get the best possible outcome in their cases. James also handles cases in a variety of other fields, but no matter what kind of legal issue a client might have, he is committed to helping them achieve the best possible results.
