Bill Mauk

A partner in the Boise law firm of Mauk & Burgoyne, attorney Bill Mauk has over 30 years of trial and appellate litigation experience in Idaho, principally in the areas of employment law, personal injury and wrongful death matters, patent infringement, and disputes among owners of closely-held corporations. He is a Past President of the Idaho Trial Lawyers Association, a former Chair of the ATLA Employee Rights Law Section, and was on the Board of the Western States Trial Lawyers Association. He previously served as a member of the Idaho Governor's Advisory Committee on Workers' Compensation and as Manager of the Idaho Industrial Special Indemnity Fund. He is a Diplomat of the National College of Advocacy, a past Co-Chair of the NCA Board of Trustees, and served on the ATLA/AAJ Board of Governors from 1997 to 2008.

Bill Mauk earned his Bachelor's degree from the University of Southern California, and holds a masters degree in political science from Columbia University as well as a Juris Doctorate from the Antioch School of Law. In the fall semester of 1995, he held an adjunct professor position teaching Employment Law at the University of Idaho College of Law. Earlier in his career he served as a Judge in the Shoshone-Bannock Tribal Court.

From 1993 to 1997, Bill Mauk was Chair of the Idaho Democratic Party, and in 1998 he was the Democratic candidate for the United States Senate from Idaho. For six months (between January and July 2002) Mr. Mauk took leave from his practice to serve as Director of Litigation Support for Trial Lawyers Care in New York City, assisting over 1,500 volunteer lawyers in providing free legal services to the victims of the September 11 attacks and their families, for which he received AAJ's Distinguished Service Award.

Bill and his wife Susan met in law school. Susan currently works as a licensed counselor in a private practice in Boise. They have two children, Sam (32) and Jonathan (28), one granddaughter (3) and a grandson scheduled to arrive in November. Bill and Susan enjoy whitewater rafting and fly fishing and have attended four Summer Olympics.
