He received his law degree, with high honors, from the University of Illinois College of Law and joined the Chicago law firm of Rudnick & Wolfe (now DLA Piper LLP), in 1980, where he was a partner before joining the predecessor to Lyon & Caron LLP in 1990.

Michael has spoken at numerous seminars on real estate like-kind exchanges, income tax planning for real estate, and real estate financing. He has written a chapter on Tax Considerations in Condominium Development for the Illinois Institute for Continuing Education and articles for several law and business journals.
