Brett J. Wasserman found his way into the legal profession after facing a frivolous lawsuit as a small business owner and being forced to indemnify and defend two major corporations. As a small business owner, Brett understands firsthand what it is like to try to navigate a legal issue without the proper experience and resources. Now, armed with a law degree and a wealth of business experience, he helps the people of the greater Los Angeles area prevent such issues from arising in their own lives.

Most legal concerns are also financial concerns, and the connection is clear when it comes to protecting your interests in an estate planning, business, real estate or tax matter. There are many advantages to working with a lawyer who balances legal and financial perspectives when advising you and taking action to accomplish your important goals.
In addition to more than 40 years of legal experience, I also have the knowledge of a Certified Public Accountant and active tax professional. For each client across all of our practice areas, this multi-disciplined approach to complex challenges often enables confident decision-making and leads to results that exceed client expectations.
When I founded our firm in 1997, I had already been admitted to the State Bar of California and U.S. Tax Court for nearly 20 years, become a Certified Public Accountant, and earned a master’s degree in taxation. These complex, intersecting fields of knowledge remain instrumental in the wide range of services we provide to our business and individual clients today.

Prior to becoming a lawyer, I was a small business owner. However, we found ourselves facing a frivolous lawsuit from a “professional plaintiff.” To make matters worse, we had licensing agreements with two (2) large corporations, which both had indemnification agreements! Suddenly, our “American Dream” became more of a nightmare and I found myself helplessly trying to navigate and understand legal issues well beyond my comprehension.
When all was said and done, I chose to turn a negative experience into a positive, so I took a job in the legal industry and enrolled in law school at night. I know first hand how overwhelming and confusing the legal system can be, and how it can be abused. Now, I use my own experiences to help other small businesses and small business owners avoid and/or navigate the same.
While there are all kinds of business lawyers out there, I choose to take a proactive approach to solving the legal issues that affect growing companies. From aspiring entrepreneurs to successful small business owners, we aim to prevent legal complications before they arise.
We help local business owners choose the right entity type, minimize tax burdens, make smart real estate decisions, and even protect their companies for generations to come by setting up well-rounded business succession plans and estate plans.
Having been on the receiving end of a lawsuit prior to becoming a lawyer, I know first hand how scary it can be. That’s why I make sure my clients know I’m just a phone call, e-mail, or text message away.
Of course, business owners aren’t the only people we work with, and one of my favorite things about working with Marc is our shared passion for getting to know our clients. I genuinely enjoy forming relationships with them and being available whenever they need our guidance.
Whether you need help forming a business, preventing business or tax-related issues, setting up an estate plan, or administering the estate of a loved one, we’re up for the challenge. These tasks aren’t always easy, but rest assured — you don’t have to face them alone.
Outside of work, I spend as much time as I can with my wife (who — fun fact — also happens to be Marc’s daughter) and our beautiful little girl.
