Valery Nechay

Valery is a first generation immigrant who was raised in San Francisco. Growing up in the Bay Area, she was exposed to many social illsgenerational poverty, poor education, and intolerancewhich shaped her passion for giving a voice to those that didn't have one. While Valery attended UC Merced for her first two years of undergraduate education, she focused on criminology; her coursework included clinical examination and visits of California prisons. She graduated from the University of Santa Cruz in 2012 with a major in Sociology and minor in legal studies. While at University of San Francisco School of Law, Valery cemented her path as a criminal defense attorney and an advocate for criminal justice reform.

During this time, she immersed herself in the clinical practice of law; she was responsible for her own misdemeanor caseload through the Criminal and Juvenile Justice clinic and taught a class called Street Law at George Washington High School to underprivileged youth. She also interned for the San Francisco Public Defender's office and the Law Office of Adam Gasner where she wrote high level motions, conducted felony preliminary hearings, and participated in several trials. After law school, Valery was an expert speaker on plea bargaining with the U.S. Department of State in Montenegro. Valery has a successful felony state and federal practice in all nine bay area counties, ranging from misdemeanors such as DUIs to serious felonies such as homicide.
