Alex Lane

Alex Lane has been practicing law for over 16 years. He is a partner at Lane, Hupp, and Crowley, PLC. Alex practices in the areas of criminal defense, DUI defense, and medical marijuana. He has an undergraduate degree in Philosophy from N.A.U., an MBA from Arizona State University, and a J.D. from the University of Arizona.

Alex has been giving presentations about law office management and mobile technology for several years. He has been a speaker for the Arizona State Bar, Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law at Arizona State University, James Rogers College of Law at the University of Arizona, and for the Apple Corporation.

In 2016, Alex won the State Bar President's Award, one of the highest awards given by the State Bar of Arizona.

Alex comes from a family of lawyers. His father, Kenney Hegland, taught law at Harvard, UCLA, and the University of Arizona. Sheridan Hegland, his grandfather, worked with the California Legislature where he demonstrated an interest in civil rights and education. Before his great-grandfather became a Marine Corps general, he was a lawyer, too. Even his stepmother, Barbara Sattler, is a superior court judge, and was a career criminal-defense attorney in Tucson before that. Indeed, being a lawyer is in Alex Lane's blood.

Before he became a criminal defense attorney, Alex worked as a prosecutor for the vehicular crimes bureau of the Maricopa County Attorney's Office. While there, he handled mostly felony DUI cases. On top of his stints in court prosecuting DUI offenders, Alex also went through extensive training related to DUIs, impairment, and vehicular collisions, as well as in investigative tactics, trial techniques, and strategies for prosecutors.

His three-year experience as a prosecutor specializing in serious felony DUI cases gave him a closer look at how DUI law works, which would serve him well when he decided to transition from being a prosecutor to a criminal lawyer in Phoenix.

As one of the top criminal defense attorneys in Phoenix for the last 16 years, Alex has earned a reputation for being an advocate for his clients, and has an excellent track record in defending them. The fact that most of his clients come from referrals not only from previous clients, but from other lawyers as well is a testament to the kind of service he provides those who choose him to represent them in court.

When not performing his duties as an attorney, he spends time with his two daughters by taking ballet classes (among other things) with them.
