Biography
David Baker's practice focuses on corporate matters, including securities, mergers and acquisitions and international law. He has practiced law in New York City with the firms now known as Chadbourne & Parke and Jones Day (retiring as the senior corporate lawyer in Jones Day's New York office) and in Birmingham and currently divides his time between his New York and Birmingham offices. He serves as an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association.

Mr. Baker served as principal outside lawyer in a number of significant transactions, including the acquisition of the RCA computer business by Sperry Rand Corporation, numerous public financings by Sperry Corporation and its affiliates, the incorporation and funding of Bluebonnet Savings Bank and the incorporation, initial acquisitions and various initial financings of Nextel Corporation. He was General Counsel of the Economic Club of New York for 34 years.

Mr. Baker is the co-editor of, and a contributor to, Due Diligence, Disclosures and Warranties in the Corporate Acquisition Practice (Graham & Trotman, 1st ed. 1988; 2nd ed. 1992) and the author of numerous other legal and business publications. Among his many professional affiliations, he was a member of the International Bar Association and served as its principal representative to the United Nations in New York. He serves on the History and Archives Committee for the Birmingham Bar Association (Chairman 2002, 2008-09), is a Trustee of Birmingham-Southern College, and a member of the North American Advisory Board of The Association of Lloyd's Members. He was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws (LL.D.) degree by Birmingham-Southern College in 2009.
