Family Law and Criminal Law offer the most opportunity for litigation, which was always what I wanted to be, a trial attorney.
I think it's wonderful that clients educate themselves in this area, and we give every client a Client Manual so that they can read up on the law and understand the process. Knowledge is essential to success in Domestic/Family Law.
I'm more than willing to review documents prepared by my clients and, in fact, encourage them to help in the collection and organizing of necessary documents to help ease the financial burden of domestic litigation. However, it is our duty and obligation to take these provided documents and turn them into a finished product.
I'm generally opposed to this practice and do not recommend it. Far too often I've seen the perils and pitfalls that pro se individuals encounter. I'm also unaware of any pro se Plaintiff or Defendant that has been successful when going up against the attorneys in and around our area.
Prior to opening the Holmes Law Firm, PLLC, I worked in the District Attorney's office under the 3rd Year Practice rule while in law school. I gained valuable experience and insight while prosecuting hundreds of cases for the State of North Carolina.
I'm from a military family, so I like to think that because of the experiences I had in travelling and changing residences every few years that I'm adept at making people feel comfortable talking with me, even when it deals with very personal situations.
I'm bold, honest and don't pull any punches. I'm not the type to "sugar coat," anything. I feel that doing so is a disservice to your clients, as it can create unrealistic expectations.Personal interests:
I enjoy golfing, and spending time with my family.
