Here at Herdt Law, PLLC, we specialize in offering clients solutions to any and all types of debt problems. Attorney Nate Herdt has over a decade of experience in helping individuals and businesses take control of their financial problems.
Nate was raised in East Lansing, Michigan and graduated from East Lansing High School where he starred on the football, basketball and track teams.
After graduation, Nate attended Albion College for three semesters where he pursued his football dreams while maintaining a 3.8 GPA. After realizing that the NFL was not in his future, Nate transferred to the University of Michigan where he excelled academically. He also participated in intramural sports while working for the Athletic Department.
After graduating from U-M, Nate returned to East Lansing to attend law school with a scholarship at the Michigan State University College of Law.
Nate married his college sweetheart, Dawn, the weekend before his law studies commenced. Nate and Dawn welcomed their daughter, Mecca, and son, Lennox, during his second and third years of law school.
Despite the pressures of being a new husband and father, Nate excelled at MSU. He demonstrated his mastery of the United States Constitution by being awarded the Jurisprudence Achievement Award for both Constitutional I and II. He also showcased his powers of verbal persuasion by being appointed to the Moot Court Board and leading his team to a National Championship as the top-ranking oral advocate at the prestigious Pepperdine Entertainment Law competition in Malibu, California.
After graduating from MSU, Nate found employment with a high-volume bankruptcy firm in Ypsilanti. He immediately became the head of the firm's litigation department where he successfully represented clients in all aspects of bankruptcy litigation and aggressively defended debtors facing creditor objections in Adversary Proceedings. Nate also developed and implemented the firm's policy for the stripping of junior mortgages in Chapter 13 cases and was directly responsible for the elimination of more than 120 second mortgages.
Nate's experience was further enhanced when he was assigned the responsibility to prosecute the firm's Chapter 13 cases in front of bankruptcy Judge Steven W. Rhodes. Notorious in legal circles for for his demanding and condescending bench etiquette, Judge Rhodes is currently gaining respect and notoriety nationally for his handling of the historic and unprecedented City of Detroit Chapter 9 bankruptcy filing.
Nate consistently answers solicitations from fellow attorneys regarding complicated bankruptcy matters and the interplay between bankruptcy and Michigan law. He has set enduring precedents for bankruptcy courts in the 6th Circuit and has shown consistent results for clients in complicated cases.
After 9+ years of working for someone else, Nate decided to open his own office and provide the residents of south and southeast Michigan with debt-relief services.
