John M. Hedges is a founding partner at Hedges & Lyons, PLLC. He began his practice in 1994, and formed Hedges & Lyons in 2011. A diverse civil litigation and appellate practice with a focus on employment law, governmental civil rights and tort liability, and insurance coverage litigation.
Appeared as counsel of record in over 100 appellate matters, including cases for the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.
Served as Counsel for the West Virginia Board of Law Examiners since 1989. He has also co-authored several judicial benchbooks and manuals relating to various areas of law.
He is an Order of the Coif graduate of West Virginia University College of Law. Received the Koontz Award from the College of Law faculty for Outstanding Scholarship, Character, and Leadership.
Served as the Managing Editor for the West Virginia Law Review and as a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of College and University Law.
Won the Best Brief Writing Award in the Appellate Advocacy Competition, as well as two writing awards for articles published in the West Virginia Law Review.
Teresa Lyons believes in providing quality legal services that are tailored to each client's needs and objectives. Teresa is a partner at Hedges & Lyons, PLLC. She has a varied civil litigation practice with an emphasis on education law, family law, insurance coverage litigation and other types of litigation, including landlord-tenant and contract litigation. Teresa regularly represents individuals, business entities and government officials at both the trial court and appellate levels in both state and federal courts.
Teresa graduated from the West Virginia College of Law in 1999. She served as a law clerk for the 15th Judicial Circuit in West Virginia for two years, and went into private practice in 2001. In conjunction with her private practice, she currently serves as a lecturer at the West Virginia University College of Law and has spoken at numerous continuing education seminars, primarily on topics related to child welfare and juvenile law. She is a board member for the Monongalia County Youth Services Center and On Eagles Wings, Inc., a therapeutic horsemanship program.
