He focused his legal studies on intellectual property matters including patent licensing, litigation, and both domestic and international prosecution. While earning his J.D., he clerked at a Dallas intellectual property boutique.

Before attending law school, Michael graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in Computer Engineering and a minor in Mathematics. Michael's coursework focused on computer architecture and integrated circuit design, and he also gained experience in software development. During his undergraduate career, Michael interned at Halliburton in the Software Development Group and at L-3 Communications' Mission Integration Division.
