Richard Gearhart, Esq., the founder of Gearhart Law, has been practicing patent law for nearly 25 years. Seven years ago, he decided he wanted to use his extensive knowledge of the patent system to help inventors and entrepreneurs start their own small businesses. He has a broad depth and range of experience in all areas of patent law. He started his career in a small private patent law firm in Chicago. He subsequently joined Dow Corning Corporation in Michigan, and furthered his corporate career as the head of the US Area Patent and Trademark department at Novartis Pharmaceuticals in New Jersey. Richard left Novartis in 2006 to start his own patent law firm, where he could focus on helping others start their own small businesses. Gearhart Law serves startups, individual entrepreneurs, small businesses, and some corporate clients.
The IP team at Gearhart Law is composed of Richard Gearhart, Esq., the firm's founder; Susanne Somersalo, Esq., Ph.D., biology; Harry Du, Esq., Ph.D., neuroscience; Roy Rosser, Ph.D., physics (patent agent); and Elizabeth Gearhart, Ph.D., chemistry (patent agent). Our style at Gearhart Law is that EVERY client is our most important client. We have clients with one invention, clients with multiple inventions, and clients who are demanding startups. We strive to treat each of them the same. We also strive to complete projects in a timely manner and educate our clients about the patent process. We believe that our focus on client satisfaction is one of our greatest strengths.
As a patent and trademark attorney for nearly 25 years, I have extensive knowledge of the patent system and the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office). Before starting my own law firm, I was head of US Area Patents and Trademarks at Novartis Pharmaceuticals. Since starting my firm in 2006 I have worked with over 500 clients on a full array of patent and trademark issues. I enjoy working with individuals and entrepreneurs and watching their businesses grow.
