Fontenot Law Trial Lawyers

Fontenot Law Trial Lawyers

Our Bountiful, Utah law firm serves the residents of Davis County, Salt Lake County, Weber County, Utah County, and Washington County in all matters concerning litigation.

Firm Overview

We are a small firm, which helps us be more responsive to our clients, and helps us keep costs down. Larger firms may not provide a better client experience due to the much higher costs, and lack of responsiveness. Our firm is based on community, forming friendships with our clients here that will last a lifetime. We pride ourselves in being accessible to our clients, by taking their calls during the day, and returning their calls and emails promptly, usually within a few hours, but not longer than the next business day.

Our approach to the law is very pragmatic. We do what works for our clients. We are problem solvers, not problem creators. When aggressive litigation is needed, we will of course take that action. However, not all cases require an aggressive approach, and some clients on a budget need a low-cost solution, not full-blown war. Whatever approach you desire for your case, of if you need advice on which approach is best, we will talk you through it, and come to a mutual decision on the best strategy not only for your case but for your budget.

We have handled extensive and problematic litigation in several matters including personal injury, auto accident, slip and fall, dog bite, divorce and custody, trusts and estates, insurance coverage and bad faith litigation, and business and contract disputes. We have also had many criminal defense jury trials which have resulted in not guilty verdicts for our clients, in additional to having some cases dismissed. Our firm has recovered millions of dollars for our clients in settlements with insurance companies in both bad faith litigation and personal injury actions.

What experience or education distinguishes your lawyers from others?

We have a combined experience of over 23 years of practice. Mr. Fontenot graduated very high in his law school class, wining awards for student excellent in several fields. Mr. Fontenot has extensive training in trial practice, and has had far more trials than the average attorney. When a case necessitates a trial, we do not shy away. Trial is sometimes the only thing that will scare the other side of a case. However, for most clients, we find that a problem-solving approach is the best way to proceed, rather than an approach that allows our firm to bill more. We try as best we can to keep legal fees and costs down where it is possible.

How frequently does your firm use mediation, arbitration, or collaborative law to resolve cases?

We mediate every family law case we handle because we find that these mediation sessions can be productive, even if the case does not settle.

We mediate every family law case we handle because we find that these mediation sessions can be productive, even if the case does not settle. We find that mediation results in a settlement 70 to 80 percent of the time, so mediation can be very useful. We do not recommend attending mediation without an attorney. There are usually intricacies in the law that come into play when drafting an agreement or making sure there is no final agreement until both sides are absolutely ready to settle.
