F. William Hessmer, IV is a founding partner of the law firm of Thomason and Hessmer, LLC. He is a graduate of Franklin and Marshall College and the Washington College of Law, American University. Mr. Hessmer's legal practice focuses on estate planning, international estate planning, estate and trust administration, corporate formation and planning, non-profit entity creation and planning, elder law, guardianship, tax planning, and other related practice areas, with individuals, families, non-profit organizations and small businesses. His practice includes consultation on revocable trusts, wills, life insurance trusts, personal residence trusts, retirement plan distributions, charitable trusts, grantor retained annuity trusts, international wealth transfer transactions, simple and complicated estate and gift tax issues, and other issues relating to the transfer of wealth. He serves clients throughout the Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. area and also advises many clients in other areas of the United States and several foreign countries. Mr. Hessmer is from the New Jersey-New York area and has been a resident of the Washington area for over 18 years. At the Washington College of Law, he was a founding member, senior editor and on the executive board of the Administrative Law Journal. In addition, he was a member of many committees of the law school, an elected member of the student government for his last two years, and remains an active alumnus. He is a published author on social security disability appeals. Mr. Hessmer is a frequent speaker and lecturer on estate planning and related topics and has spoken before groups ranging from senior citizens groups to brokerage, financial planning, and non-profit groups.
