What experience or education distinguishes your lawyers from others?

Here at Dayes Law Firm, our managing attorney has received his LL.M. in Taxation. An LL.M. is a Masters of Law and typically requires an additional year of study after receiving your law degree. While the law degree is typically more of a generalized education in the law, an LL.M. is time specifically studying and learning about a specific topic in the law. In our case it is in Taxation. This education in school, internships, clerkships and in the job market have given the managing attorney a unique perspective on how to most efficiently help those in need. These lessons have been shared with the other attorneys on staff as well as the paralegals, legal assistants and staff here in the office. All of us here at Dayes Law Firm can effectively look at the legal problem and us our collective experiences to help our clients achieve the best possible outcome.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

Here at Dayes Law Firm, we firmly believe that our clients should educate themselves on the legal issues facing them. With that said, we ask that our clients who like to do their own research take everything with a grain of salt. Just because someone did a google search and one site said something does not mean that is the way it will go in their case. We are here to help our clients get the best possible outcome for their case and a lot of times this requires our clients to be educated about their legal problems. If our clients have some knowledge we will build upon that knowledge to ensure that everyone, our staff and our clients, understands the reason we are doing what we are doing for our clients.
In addition to educating themselves about their current problem really we want our clients to not make the same mistakes again. Specifically when dealing with tax issues there usually is a root problem that caused the debt to occur. If our clients resolve the issue, learn from their mistake and not make the same mistakes again, we have done our job as your lawyer. We have failed when our clients make the same mistake over time. We have not addressed the issue with them and as such we did not do our job to the best of our abilities.
The one thing we ask when our clients have done their own research is to please listen to us and understand we are coming from a position of having dealt with these issues for years. We understand the real world application of laws, regulations and opinions. Some websites put themselves out there as experts but in reality they are not experts. What works for one person does not always work for everyone. With that said we encourage our clients to learn more about their case because it will allow them to ask questions, respond to our requests and to help them get a resolution they are looking to obtain.

What are your policies about dividing work within the firm to make the process most cost-effective for the client?

Dayes Law Firm is willing to divide the work within the firm to make the process not just more cost-effective but also more efficient in the prosecution of the case. Often times paralegals or legal assistants will contact our clients in order to obtain information or to respond to basic questions from our clients. We find that this is a more efficient use of time for all parties. From a cost perspective this allows Dayes Law Firm to keep cost down which allows us to pass on any savings to our clients in the form of lower fees, when possible.
