Estate Planning

Careful advice and easy access.

The bulk of my time is spent in estate planning, including trusts and trust administration, and also probate matters. I also provide ongoing services to some businesses which are fairly sizeable, but not publicly owned.

How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

My former law firm of Guidotti and Lee was originally a very general civil practice, including litigation, touching on most fields except criminal and bankruptcy. Before the firm moved to Orinda in 1989, we were in an Italian neighborhood in North Oakland where my former law partner, Aldo P. Guidotti, who passed away in 2013, grew up. We would handle most problems for the neighboring families and businesses. As the age of specialization evolved and clients themselves grew older, we became more focused on estate matters, which is what I practice today.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I am for it, provided that they are cautious about undertaking anything significant on their own.

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I am willing, but would advise if it is quicker and cheaper to use our own form than to fully review theirs.

What distinguishes your law firm from others?

My stye is to try to put the client at ease and to resolve his or her matter in a manner with the least stress and cost. I attempt to minimize the client's expense, while being thorough in the preparation and services needed. I strive to explain everything clearly and completely. Developing a trusting client relationship is important to me. Many of my clients are multi-generational, including grandparents, parents and grandchildren.

Professionally: When I started practicing law with a seasoned law firm in a primarily Italian neighborhood in North Oakland, I benefited from mentoring and continued support by a senior partner with outstanding academic credentials and professional accomplishments.

Personally: I am married and have three adult children and two grandchildren. My community and charitable interests include the Rotary Club of Lamorinda Sunrise (past president), St. John's Presbyterian Church in Berkeley (elder), Orinda Czech Sister City Program (director), and the Contra Costa Performing Arts Society (counsel). I perform classical piano and enjoy hiking in and around the San Francisco Bay Area.
