Bankruptcy Legal Counseling Center of Oklahoma

Firm Overview

Our practice has been almost completely limited to consumer debtor bankruptcy for the past ten (15) years. We file about equal numbers of chapter 7 cases as chapter 13 cases. Our chapter 13 practice primarily involves stopping home foreclosures, automobile repossessions by giving the clients up to five (5) years to bring their notes current. This also discharges unsecured debts like credit cards and medical bills that the client cannot afford to pay.

When our clients are behind on a mortgage payment, vehicle loan, taxes or child support we often help them by a filing a chapter 13 bankruptcy case. A chapter 13 case gives them up to five (5) years to pay off the vehicle, catch up on the mortgage, pay the taxes and pay the back child support while stopping all legal action against them. During that time only as much of the unsecured debt, like credit cards and medical bills, is paid as the client can afford, usually about 10 or 20 cents on the dollar and no interest or penalties are allowed to accrue during the chapter 13 plan term.
