Ms. Arii was born in Pusan, South Korea and moved to the United States when she was six years old. She spent part of her junior year in college studying Japanese in Nagoya, Japan and Tokyo, Japan. Upon graduating from Smith College in 1995, Ms. Arii earned her J.D. in 1998 from American University Washington College of Law. She is very active in the Maryland legal community. Following her time as a Fellow in the Maryland State Bar Association's (MSBA) Leadership Academy, she was asked to join the Leadership Academy Committee and has herself become a mentor to new Fellows. Since her affiliation with the Women's Bar Association of Maryland began in 2004, she has served as co-editor of the newsletter as well as a member of the Board of Directors. In 2005, she was inducted a Fellow of the Maryland Bar Foundation which honors those who exhibit "outstanding dedication and contribution to maintaining the honor and integrity of the legal profession, the improvement and facilitation of the administration of justice, the work of the organized Bar of Maryland and civic leadership. Membership as a regular Fellow is limited to not more than 2.5 percent of MSBA membership."
